Art of Backpacking: Hostel Life

Cool Article, I've traveled abroad for a year and I've never stayed in a hostel. I always rented apartments or stayed in hotels. I'm going to Tulum for a wedding in Feb and I'll give it a shot, sounds like a worthy experience.

If you're going to Tulum you should stay in the cabanas on the beach... it's too nice to pass up. There is a hostel in town called the Weary Traveler and it is a great spot. I've spent some time there and if you have an extra night you should check it out for the social scene. Other than that, spend most of your time on the beach. It's one of my favorite places in the world.

OOH, the cabanas on the beach sound pretty damn good too. I'll get started on the research. Damn, I love travelling :)

Great article and so true!! I can't imagine who I would be without everything that I learned from other travelers and at the hostels!

The people I've met in hostels sometimes became my best friends. My entire plan would change leading me to go to a totally different country just from meeting one person. Some of the best experiences of my life were from the people Ive met at hostels.
    Great article Grant!
